Image result for premier pro logoPremier pro enabled me to edit the trailer and effects to it that make it seem more of a horror instead of just the basic footage. Premier pro is the software that I used to edit the trailer, add cuts in the trailer to help make the trailer have a purpose and have a meaning. Without premier pro I would not be able to make the trailer as effective as it has turned out, and it would not be associated with the horror genre. The music and effects added to the footage have been added in by the use of premier pro and without this, it would not be how it is.

Image result for photoshop logo                    Photoshop helped me to make my magazine and my poster which was related to my film. Photoshop was there when I need to cut image sizes, add text, and to basically make my poster and magazine. Within Photoshop there are plenty of tools that are used to do certain things and add certain effects. One thing that really helped me was the use of having rulers, these helped me to make sure my work was in line with each other making it look that extra bit professional.

Image result for youtube logo

YouTube was used to give me and my group inspiration on what sort of horror we would make and what sort of ideas we would add in. This enabled us to look at existing films and gave us ideas of what sort of conventions are associated with each kind of genre, this helped us pick what horror film we would make and enabled us to have a good idea of what to include in the film to make it scary.

Image result for google logoGoogle enabled me to use it as a search engine, meaning I was able to use this to help me find existing products and help me find how they look and what sorts of conventions go with a poster and magazine cover when associated with horror.

Image result for camera

The camera was used to of course film the actual trailer. Without the use of camera, we wouldn’t have been able to film the trailer. The quality of the camera was very good which meant that we got a very good crisp image for the recording of the film.

Image result for surveymonkey logo Survey monkey enabled me to create a questionnaire that led to me finding out information about what my target audience want to see in a horror and what they think of horrors as a whole. The use of survey monkey was key within helping me, find the demands of the target audience, it helped to make my product as effective due to the questionnaire I created from using this.

Image result for flipsnack logoFlipsnack was where I would upload all of my work and turn it into a flip book to then upload to my blog. Flipsnack would help me make my look professional by adding a front cover and adding text to make it clear what piece of work it is.

Image result for blogger logoBlogger was used for me to upload all of my work to, so that my teacher would be able to see the amount of work I have done and what standard it is at. This would help me on where I could improve my work so he could give me feedback from looking on my blog.

All of these tools and technologies enabled me to make the production of my media film and enable me to keep my work organised and in a safe place. By using all these tools, it meant that I didn't have to spend any money when making my film as the software's and tools were provided for us, and we just had to use them effectively and creatively to make our work as good as we could. As I done media at GCSE level, I was already familiar with some of the software and tools that were used but I learnt new things and my overall knowledge of the software's massively improved enabling my work to be more effective. This was my second year of studying media and the product I made in the first year benefited me in the second year. This product was making the poster, I made a horror poster this year to go with my horror trailer. The poster work came rather easy to me as of the time and practice I had in my first year when making the music poster.

Marketing and Distribution

Marketing and distribution

What does a film distributor do?

A film distributor is responsible for the marketing of the film. The distribution company is usually different from the production company. Distribution deals are important part of financing a film. The distributor may set the release date of the film and the way that the film is viewed by the public in the cinema or at home. If the distributor owns cinemas or film distribution networks then they may do this direct through these so they come through their own systems. They will make a campaign to make the film as well known as possible, this will include advertising in specific areas to target certain audiences or they may choose to advertise so they get a wide range of audiences.

How does reach relate to film distribution?

Reach relates to film distribution as the size of the reach can depend on how much profit the film overall makes. If the distributor of the film decides to have a big reach and target lots of audiences around the world, then this will result in it costing more money to do so, however it could have a positive effect on the success of the film when it does finally get released as more people would have originally heard of it. This links in with how they advertise, if they have a large advertise reach then more people will notice and see about the film before it release date which could attract more people to come and watch the film when it finally gets released in cinemas and on DVD. This can be a risk though as spending all this money on advertising could back fire as people not find the film interesting and may not come and watch it, resulting in the distribution company losing money as of a drop in overall sales of the film. A film that did become very successful which had a very large reach was 'The Women in Black' this has turned out to be a very successful film all because of how efficiently the distribution team marketed the film and of course the effect Daniel Radcliffe had on the audience, especially drawing all the Harry Potter fans to this film as of how iconic he has became as an actor.

What is meant by the distribution plan?

This is when a plan is created by the management team where their aim is to transfer their product to retailers and then to the consumers. They will identify the films target audience so that they can then find ways to effectively promote and advertise this film to this specific target audience. When doing this they may have to consider the genre that the film is and what target audience is generally associated with that type of film. If a film distribution company has a low budget then they won't be able to go wild on the amount of advertising as they wont be able to fund it all.

What is meant by the marketing plan?

A marketing plan is when the company describes the plan to achieve specific marketing objectives within a specific time scale. The plan usually will start with the identification of what the consumers would like, this can be identified through market research. The plan will also include analysis of the current market situation so they know how things are looking at the moment and what demands they will need to meet in order to have success. There are so many ways to market a film, this can be done through posters, trailers, magazine adverts, social media accounts and mobile apps so it reaches a wide range of target groups.

What is the difference between advertising, publicity and promotion?

Advertising is the materials that they company decides to market their brad with. This for example, could be to advertise in magazines, TV and radio stations. The company as a whole will decide on what methods of advertising they think are most effective in order of getting this film out their and getting it to the right target audience for them to then buy and watch. Publicity is the way it gains the public attention towards the product (film). This could be done with actors from the film appearing on TV shows and talking about how good the film is going to be, and showing some clips from the film to give the audience a sneak preview of what is to be expected. Promotion is the way of raising awareness of the film. This could be done by selling merchandise with the films title on it or the films main star on it, this could be done by giving away posters in certain magazines and newspapers or doing give aways on social media which will result in a wide range of people, due to how many people have social media accounts now a days.

Trailer analysis

Film title: Under the bed (2012)
https://youtu.be/u7zb6kPbw80
Under the bed is a horror film that was released in 2012. Some of the horror conventions that this film consists of is the music at the start of the film. The music at the start of the film is straight away associated with horror, if someone was to close their eyes and watch this trailer and hear the music then they would associate it with the horror genre. Also at the start of the trailer, you get some of the back story to what the film will be about, and in this situation it is about the mental boy who burnt his house down, whilst 2 boys are taking the mick out of him by saying to a girl to keep him away from matches. The edits during the trailer start to get quicker once the story is established, it then jumps into the main part of the film where you see clips of the horror that takes place within the film, and at this point the edits are really quick, creating tension and pace for the film viewers to witness. A general trailer convention will be that the title of the film, appears at the end for the viewers to see, this is common in most trailers no matter what the genre is. Another general trailer convention, is that the main characters are easily established in the first part of the trailer, this will be by having the trailer focused around these people and with different sections of the film they will all be involved and have parts of them saying things that are relevant to the film. A final convention of general trailers that this film has is a voice over, a lot of films in their trailers will have voice overs of someone saying perhaps a story to go with the film, it may be of the main character talking over a scene that they are not in but they are still talking about something that is important to the film and this is why they are in trailers.

Film title: They boy (2016)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGbB9UQ6r1g
The boy is a horror film that was released in 2016. Some of the horror conventions that this film consists of is that some of the music at the start of the trailer is straight away associated with the horror genre, especially when the old lady shows the girl her son, at that point the music is clearly in a horror tone. The laugh of the little boy where he disappears at the dining table, is associated with the horror genre. There is some back story in this trailer, but it doesn’t come at the start of it. In this trailer, it comes around half way through it and it tells us about the boy and his story to why he is how he is now. The fast cuts during this trailer create tension and speed, this is common in horror trailers, the fast cuts start to happen when the story is developed and the trailer is now in full flow of how the actual movie will be. Horror trailers have the conventional scary music when things happen it picks up pace and gets louder, adding to the tension of the overall effect on the trailer. At the end of the trailer it flashes up with social media accounts of the official film and how to keep on top of the latest news associated with this film before its release.

Paranormal activity
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_UxLEqd074
Paranormal activity has gone on to be one of the most iconic films in the recent years of its release. The way this trailer is shown to the audience is very unconventional to how most trailers are shown before the actual release of the film. They show the trailer through a cinema view. At the start of the trailer it shows the audience queuing up and waiting to come into the cinema for the viewing of the film. The fasts cuts during the trailer represent that this is a horror trailer along with the pace of the overall trailer. There is writing at the start of the trailer that is clearly associated with the horror genre and the way the letters appear represent that this is a horror trailer. It shows the audiences reaction to certain parts of the film and this works well with the promotion of this film and just how scary it is going to be on its release to the world. Quotes are also given to show reviews of the film before the release and to emphasize how scary this film is, by adding in quote it helps people understand what other people and what other companies think of the film and it contributes to their decision of wanting to go and watch the film. The sound effects throughout this trailer connote fear and danger. This helps to add to the overall scariness of this horror trailer.
